I learned كوميدي عالواقف in 48 hours: @comedycentralar #ComedyHunt

I have been off the map for the past 48 hours and this is why:

Comedy Central Arabia OSN (namely the comedians Khaled Omar and Ali Al Sayed) came all the way from Dubai to give us comedy-interested people a 2-day-workshop:
#findcomedycentralarabia

[Sunday September 24 2017]
An Open Mic (us trying our material and trying the stage out)

[Monday September 25 2017]
A Full Day Workshop introducing the classical Structure of a good Stand Up Comedy show & An Assignment that will guide us to developing a good show

[Tuesday September 26 2017]
Workshop Day II: presenting our prepared stand up show in front of our peers then at 8:00 pm in front of our friends in A Legit Stand Up Comedy Show at Retro Active Monot

What I took from this workshop?
A Stand Up Comedian is the writer, director, and performer of his show.

A Good Stand up comedian:

  • Comes up with his own material – something that he cares about
  • Avoids mentioning genital organs or swear words – just for the heck of it
  • Never disrespects another comedian
  • Knows well how to be an audience member – Zips it
  • Attacks Up never down – An ugly girl attacks Victoria Secret models and not vice versa
  • Always makes the audience feel superior

A Good Joke consists of a premise (subject), Setup (place/location), and Punch line.
Types of jokes:

  • Acting Out
  • Impressions In Sounds (the impression is not the joke, whatever is being said should still sound funny even if there was no impression)
  • Compare & Constrast
  • Analogy
  • Breaking Logic: Exaggeration

A one-hour stand up show doesn’t mean a longer build up for jokes; Louis CK presents one-hour sets consisting of one-minute-jokes.

It is best to start with a 5 minute set, then move to a 10, 15, 45, and 1 hour sets. Classically, the show should start and end up with the funniest material.

So much love for our mentors & the Comedy Central production team!

“7kita 3ala facebook w maraddit” is not a business approach

So is “Ba3atella DM on instagram w ma raddit”
Being A digital consultant, I find it often that people are interested in working with bloggers, digital influencers, or talents. Sometimes directors would find an actress so fitting for a specific role, that they send her a private message.

I also hear this often “I sent her a message on instagram and on facebook, she did not reply, she is probably sheyfeh hala”, while on the other hand there are numerous numbers of bloggers waiting for sponsors, for content, and there are so many talented actresses and models feeling unappreciated.

What should you do?
– Every blogger/ actress has contact information on their socials: Send them an email or call their personal numbers. Don’t just wait for a message on Facebook. That is you being unprofessional, not them being cocky.

– When not getting a reply, send a reminder after 3 days, then another one after 2 weeks.

– (If you still did not get a reply and you are still after this specific person) Figure out a medium. Think of a person who would know her personal number or email and contact that person.

– Contact Talent Agents and Agencies for assistance (they usually have contact information of talents)

Tips:

  • The new instagram links you directly to a person’s contact
  • Many professionals have their numbers put on LinkedIn
  • Bloggers that do not have a contact number on their socials probably do not want to be contacted (so if you are a blogger and aiming for sponsors and proposals, put it there!)
  • When signing deals and talking MONEY with the assistance of a talent agent or medium, ask for a meeting for the 3 of you together. Chances are big that some projects do not go though because the “person in the middle” wants a bigger commission or is not transmitting the right info about a specific activity

While mostly all businesses exist on facebook and instagram, both are still NOT BUSINESS platforms. You want to raise a complaint, send an inquiry, or ask for a favor SEND AN EMAIL, CALL THE NUMBER, and ASK FOR A F2F MEETING.

Goodluck!
Much Love!

Whatsapp Stories? Wha…

So I guess everyone is doing it now?

Most of you know that I am a firm believer and a heavy user of Snapchat, however I do post stories on both instagram and Snapchat.

I just got these leaked pictures of WHATSAPP STORIES, not sure they are official though, but they seem like a test dummy for a new update.

I personally do not have all my snapchat friends on Instagram – and definitely not on whatsapp, so I do not see this whatsapp update as threatening to my “stories activity”.

Many people I know though, shifted from Snapchat to Instagram stories since it made more sense – they have both their friends and the main pages they follow on Instagram; they wouldn’t be missing on anything (no major FOMOs).

Whatsapp stories would make more sense for those who use Snapchat to check their friends updates; those who are more private.

Probably Whatsapp Stories would target:

  • Private Instagram users who refrain from uploading insta stories  because of the two people they don’t know that they accepted last Monday
  • 30 and above who do not really care about celebrities or follow major news and celebrity/fashion/influencers pages
  • People who never used Snapchat or instagram stories and never really got it “because it’s too complicated”
  • Jealous boyfriends and girlfriends who already change their whatsapp pictures into black and their status into “pimping” and “single” when they’re on a fight

I think it will be less common among the youngsters since their parents and aunts have their whatsapp contacts – and no kid wants his grandma to know he is having fries for lunch at Burger King instead of her Kebbeh.

Thoughts?

MAWZ, MAWZAYN

So it was just revealed that the person behind the video we all watched is Clara Hawa, a psychology and theater student who risked her reputation for a week in order to convey a message most of us should support and execute.
When I first watched this video, I wasn’t sure if it’s a parody – you know Iike the ones all over youtube – or not, but everyone said it’s a real song. However, they all said something was fishy about her wig and sunglasses.

image

I wanted to write something about this, but I felt it wasn’t worth discussing – just like Myriam Klink’s Antar. Now that I know it was IMPACT BBDO’s #balasakhafe3ishelsa2afe campaign, I’d definitely like to point out how silly our societies have become. I personally work in social media and I know how people react to silly stuff in oppose to good content that have a MEANING. I always try to spread awareness/ interesting content but such posts just don’t really go viral.

I guess people who made fun of Zeezee are now feeling awkward about themselves.

image

Zeezee’s video isn’t that bizarre. It is an exaggerated version of the music videos in the Lebanese industry – and whatever they try to tell us.

Moreover, the funniest part of the video was the credits! I couldn’t believe people actually put their name there!

Now that it all makes sense I’d wish that our artists would start thinking twice before singing a ‘sexy’ song, directors and producers would have more dignity before putting their names on absurd videos (because the ones out there aren’t THAT BETTER), and better yet,  WE would STOP MAKING *Similar* PEOPLE FAMOUS.

image

I love what Zeezee did though, every actress who takes acting seriously would definitely have done this. Now we all know what that girl is capable of right? Hats down!
Quoting her “Reading one book per month would do our societies good.”

image

Being a previous intern at Impact BBDO, I’m really proud of this campaign as well. I think it’s all simply genius.

much love w bala tjeljou2!
